Earn Money With Google Adsense and Wordpress

Thursday, July 3rd, 2008
wordpress plugin
Implementing Google Adsense as a marketing strategy starts with Google’s Wordpress.

While Wordpress is mainly a blogging platform, it is also a functional Content Management System, or CMS. Wordpress makes it quick and simple to manage the contents of your blog and other sites.

Wordpress functions like a word processor using a special administration panel called a dashboard to create and manage posts and pages. You can manage categories and every other part of your site with dashboard.

The customization options for Wordpress are nearly unlimited. Wordpress users may use any of the thousands of templates or themes that have been developed, many of which include Adsense blocks that optimize your site for a high click through rate. You can thus turn your site into an Adsense website by simply uploading an Adsense-ready theme. You can thus devote more time to developing high-quality posts and articles for your website and blog.

Not only do many themes include link units and Adsense ad units, but they are also often Search Engine Optimized, or SEO, which means the construction is best for a search engine spider to recognize it, and they will also interlink pages so that access is in the correct order.

Pingomatic in Wordpress will ping many services every time you create a new entry. With each ping, search engines are informed that your site has new content, so that they can send their spiders to examine it. Wordpress can also generate RSS feeds and complete sitemaps.

Wordpress’s blogging platform allows visitors to comment on blog posts and other content you produce. This is great as it encourages user interaction and site ’stickiness’. Don’t overlook the advantage of increased site content each time someone posts a comment.

Thousands of ‘plugins’ are available for Wordpress - plugins bring extra functions to your site and are quick and easy to install. One of them automatically turns words into links- a simple but extremely powerful aid for affiliate marketers. That plugin makes it very simple to generate affiliate links and words with which you would like your site to be associated.

Affiliate webmasters and Adsense site operators will love Wordpress!

Wordpress Knocks Out Google’s Blogger In Building Niche Blogs

Friday, May 16th, 2008
wordpress plugin
When it comes to building and creating profit pulling niche blogs Wordpress really shines and really beat Blogger.com heads down.

If you didn’t know, Blogger is a free blogging software owned by Google. You can set up a blogging account in three easy steps and start blogging.

On the other hand, Wordpress is a very popular blogging software. The easiest way to install and set up Wordpress would be to do a one click installation from the Cpanel of your hosting account.

Now, Wordpress is more than just a blogging software.

In the past when blogging first evolved, marketers did not give it much thought…until they discovered the power of syndication through RSS feeds.

With Rss feeds, they can now reach out to a target markets they normally would not have been able to.

You can liken the Rss feeds to the different channels on the radio station. It allows your message to be broadcast to targeted groups of people. For example, classical channel appeals to classical music lovers an so on.

You can create Rss feeds with Google’s Blogger, however additional setup is required.

Wordpress has an in-built syndication function, unlike Blogger.com where it still needs some configuration.

In addition, Wordpress has some powerful features that make it a marketer’s dream tool:

(a) Automatic Pinging

Wordpress will automatically ping the blog directories listed each time you publish a post.

This notifies the blog directories of your blog updates, and can bring more traffic and visitors to your blog.

(b) Categories

It might not seem like a big deal, but when you realize that you can name the category using keywords you want to target, then BAM!

It hits you like a rock. You can have multiple categories named using keywords you want to target, and write your post under that category. With proper planning and carefully spreading the same keyword in your post, you can achieve higher Search Engine rankings easily.

This is where Google’s Blogger lose out.

Google’s Blogger does not provide any category support. If you want to target selected keywords, you need to manually create the links and manually tweak the Blogger template.

As you blog gets bigger and you post more often, this can become a nightmare.

(c) Plugins Plugins give Wordpress additional functions and features. All you need to do is upload the Plugin file, Activate the plugin file and you’re set to go.

Example plugins would include Google Adsense plugins where you can insert Adsense plugins with the click of a button. Or Chitika Ads plugins, again to display contextual ads and let you make more money with your blog.

(d) Easily change the theme of your blog (site) With Wordpress, everything is just point and click (or plug N play). You can easily change the theme and layout of your Blog without having to learn about web design.

Design is important since a good design can appeal, attract and keep your readers coming back. Changing your blog design also keeps your niche blog ‘refreshing’ in terms of look and feel.

This is why Wordpress knocks out Google’s Blogger when it comes those serious about building long-term profitable niche blogs.

Three Simple Tweaks to Your Wordpress Blog for Better SEO

Tuesday, January 1st, 2008
wordpress plugin
There are three easy things you can do to improve the optimization of your WordPress blog. You will want to do this because it will improve the speed your blog gets indexed and help you to rank higher for your keywords. The first is adding the proper plug-ins, the second is to change the permalinks, and the third is to claim your blog.

Adding plug-ins

There are a couple plug-ins that you should use on every WordPress blog. One of them is All-In-One-SEO.. You also need to add the Google-XML-Sitemap plug-in along with a tagging plugin. There are multiple tagging plugins and the pluses and minuses of each would be a complete article by themselves.

All-In-One-SEO plug-in allows you to change the title tags for each post. Individual title tags will cause a huge improvement in your rankings over the default WordPress uses of using the same title tag across the whole blog. The site map plug-in creates a compliant site map and updates it automatically for easier indexing on all of the major search engines. Finally proper use of tags will allow you to categorize your posts and get multiple rankings within the search engine rankings..

Change Permalinks

It is easy to change the permalinks on a WordPress blog. Login to your dashboard, click settings, click on permalinks. This will allow you to change your permalinks from a URL of http://yourdomain.com/?p=123 to something more SEO friendly, Using a URL like http://yourdomain.com/category(with your keyword)/post title(again with your keywords there). You can do this by using the custom url with these tags ” /%category%/%postname%/”.There are also other tags available to allow you to create what works best for you.

Google Webmaster Tools and Technorati

You should be using both Google Webmaster Tools and Technorati. Make sure that you submit your blog through the Google Webmaster tools and claim it properly per their instructions. This will be done either by FTPing a special file or creating a special post. Google will now tell you any problems they have indexing your blog when you check back.

Claiming your blog at Technorati also is important. This will allow you to link your tags to Technorati and have them show in your account. This allows you another way to track any problems with the way your blog is being indexed.

In summary, these three steps can improve the optimization of your blog for all on page factors. For me personally, these simple changes have sped up the indexing of my blog significantly and have helped to improve the ranking of the posts too.

How to Select a Wordpress Theme

Friday, December 7th, 2007
wordpress plugin
The first thing that will come to one’s mind, when decided to write a blog on a topic they are interested in, is selection of the theme or template for their blog. There are number of blogging platforms like WordPress,Blogger,Typepad ,etc. If you do a search on google for the blogging platforms, you will get a list of those. Among all, WordPress is most popular and has thousands of blogs built using this platform. It is Open Source project and is free to use.

In this article, I will tell you how to select a WordPress(WP) theme. A WP theme is nothing but a piece of software used to build your blog. It contains various templates or files which work together in the background to give you the desired look and feel for your blog. Following the below tips help you to select your blog theme easily and efficiently.

1. Category: This means what is your blog all about. It defines the kind of audience you want to target your blog to. For example, if you want to write a blog about dogs, then your blog comes under the ’Pets’ category. Or if you like to target to the people interested in cooking then you category would be ‘Food’. Finding your category helps you to find the right theme and thus saving your time and energy in the process of setting it up and later correcting it. There are themes in every major category ranging from Travel to Music to Business.  You can find these at the WP Theme directory and also at number of websites like Free wordpress themes, Daily Blog tips, themestudio.

2. Colors and layouts:Some people like to have their favorite colors to their blogs. So, try getting your themes in those colors as much as possible but this may not be possible always although there are hundreds of WP themes which match every desire.  Also there is another advantage in using a theme of your favorite color as you do not need to change a lot in the theme to get your color. But I recommend not to focus much on this aspect because it is not that difficult to change it later once you are comfortable with the code behind it. Rather concentrate on the layout of the theme. Decide on what type of layout you want. Browse through the list of themes you have at WordPress.org and other websites sited above. This will give you an idea of how it looks and then you can easily make a decision. There are number of layouts available, but popular are:

 Single Column

Two Column (With Sidebar)

Two Column (Without Sidebar)

Three Column

Four column

Fixed width

Fluid width

Also there are some layouts specifically designed for Photos centered and Videos centered blogs. I feel you have to select a theme which you can live with it for long term as you are the one who visits your blog the most. Experiment some themes with some test posts and pages. Comment them, categorize them and see how your selected theme looks. This is the best way to ensure you have the right theme. Do not see the blog theme from your own point of view but from your reader’s point of view.

 3. Purpose of your blog:This is important as this will help you to select your theme for the long term. If you are going to write a blog only for you to vent out your emotions and thoughts, you do not need to give much importance to many other aspects of your blog like advertisements, widgets, etc. But if you blog to help others like this one you are presently reading, or to make money out of it, then you need to also consider few other things in addition to the above ones.  Some things you need to consider are, if that theme supports advertisements without much tweaking and turning the code, does the theme supports the widgets or plugins, like RSS, Protection from Spam comments, Search engine optimization, etc. By default when you have signed up for a Wordpress blog, you will be provided with default themes. You can use them or select your own from visiting the WordPress’s own free WP themes or other Paid WP theme websites like Revolutinary Themes, StyleWP, BlogOhBlog. These websites provide professional looking themes with excellent support. If you are serious about blogging or making money from blogging, you should use one of these Paid WP themes.

Following this tip helps you to achieve the goal you have set before starting to blog, more easily and efficiently.

 4. Support: Ensure you will get the support you needed while using the theme from the theme author or website owner. I have seen many times, that the site owner from where the theme is downloaded could not able to help the user who have downloaded and used it for their blog because they are not developed by himself but somebody else and he is only promoting them. If this is the case when you need the support most, then it would lead to frustration and waste of time for you.

 Happy Blogging.

How To Eliminate Wordpress Blog Comment Spam

Saturday, October 20th, 2007
wordpress plugin
One of the most serious problems with any blogging system, including WordPress, is that the comments area is wide open to that scourge of the Internet, spammers. In this case, it’s comment spam.

Comment spam is created by people seeking to boost their Google rankings by having lots of links pointing to their own websites. This causes a wide variety of problems:

• When Google detects content spam, they will often block the site it’s coming from because it messes up their ranking system.

• It takes up your valuable time and bandwidth to eliminate these posts.

• If the onslaught of spam is heavy enough, it may result in a denial-of-service attack, intended or not, which is a situation in which the server tries so hard to post bad information and/or deliver notification emails to you that it denies service to the legitimate requests. In at least one case, a blogger received over two thousand email notifications of comments that needed approval; as he dealt with these, he continued getting more, ultimately crashing his mail server.

As you can see, even if you have your comments set to post only upon approval, this can be a serious problem. One solution is the Akismet plugin for WordPress.

Akismet Plugin and Other Plugin Options for WordPress

Akismet is designed to help you filter out those nasty spammers, and it’s not hard to get it installed into your WordPress system. Download the plugin, and upload it to the blog directory on your server in the plugins subdirectory under wp-content. Activate from the WordPress plugins menu. If you have a notice that you need the Akismet API, go to the WordPress website and look or ask for one.

Here’s the magic: the only instruction in Akismet is “forget that spam was ever a problem.” You don’t have to do anything else at all - the spam will simply be bounced. You will not receive a notification, nor will you have to go out and delete spam.

Another plugin for eliminating spam from bots is the “Did You Pass Math” plugin. This one makes the user perform a simple math problem before submitting a comment. As most humans can handle this and most spambots can’t, it’s pretty likely that a comment posted through this is a legitimate comment. You should add a note of caution that your comments will be deleted if you answer the math wrong, though; a wise commenter will use an offline composition tool, not post directly to the comments area.

If This Still Doesn’t Work

If you still can’t eliminate spammers with these plugins, you can eliminate them by denying them access to your comments area. This does not mean you have to disable your comments section, only that you need to set up a filter.

It’s not usually as simple as just blocking their IPs. Serious spammers use random IPs, while blocking IPs may get rid of them for a short time, it will ultimately prevent legitimate comments from being posted. Spammers are also notorious for hijacking other people’s IP addresses. But as a short-term emergency solution, you can try it. The IP address is included in the information packet for the comment; it’s similar to a traceable phone number. Look for clear patterns in your IP numbers.

Use the .htaccess file to block unwanted IPs from even seeing your blog. For instance, these lines can be added:

order allow,deny

deny from 123.123.123.123

deny from 456.456.456.*

deny from 789.789..

allow from all

IPs are four-part numbers, such as 192.168.0.1. Typically, if you see a pattern with the first two sections being identical, you can block all IPs of that type by simply listing them as 192.168.., as you see above. This screens out all these IP numbers. Blocked IPs will get a 403 error page; customize yours so that your contact details are listed in case you’re blocking out a legitimate user. Don’t use your regular email; a spammer can harvest that too, for a whole new set of problems. Instead, encode your email so that it’s not automatically readable.

When you think you have your problems addressed, you can remove the block from your .htaccess file. If it still doesn’t work, or if you don’t see an IP pattern, it’s likely that spambots are hijacking someone else’s machine to attack your site. In this case, do not use the IP block.

Again, if you don’t have an IP pattern of attack, this may not be worth doing. Remember, too, that with IP addresses, the first numbers affect the largest number of computers, like a reverse address: USA, California, Sacramento, X Building, Ste. 101, Joe Schmo. An IP follows roughly the same pattern, with the last of the four sections referring to the specific computer it is attached to.

Google’s Nofollow Attribute

Of course, if it’s a waste of their time to spam you, spammers may just skip you altogether. For this reason, you can use the Google Nofollow attribute for links: . This attribute is embedded automatically by modern versions of WordPress.

It does not eliminate links, which is what spammers are working on adding to your site. Instead, it makes those links irrelevant to Google. The end result is that it doesn’t hurt your rank in Google, and it doesn’t help a spammer to send data to your site. It also marks you, for spambots looking for an easy target, as a waste of time.

This is not an immediate fix. But it is a way to make your blog resistant to spammers in the future. If you’re already a target, you’ll have to work with it slowly, incorporating all these fixes. If you aren’t a target, the very least you should do is turn on the nofollow option in your WordPress system; this will deter any hungry spambots. Upgrade your version, or look for one of the plugins that provides this service for you.

What are the New Features in Wordpress 2.6

Tuesday, March 6th, 2007
wordpress plugin
Blogging has provided an efficient and magnificent tool to publicize info about any company on the net. We have got so many blogging platforms and WordPress is one of them. WordPress has released its new version 2.6. WordPress 2.6 has got a no. of features for content creation and improvements. We will just take a look at the major and minor features of the newer version.

Here are the major important features of WordPress’s newer version:

Edit-Tracking:
The new edit-tracking system will be quite handy for multi-author blogs. It allows you to see the changes made to a post and enable you to see who made what changes to a post and when. It also provides the option to revert back to the older version of a post, in case you make a mistake.

Press This: “Press This” is like a bookmark you can add to your toolbar. It offers a fast and smart popup to do postings to your WordPress blog. Suppose you are viewing a Youtube video and finds it relevant for your blog and want to post it on your blog, then what you have to do is to just click “Press this” button. It will automatically extract the embedded code and post it on your blog. In the same way you can post to your blog from anywhere on the net.

Google Gears Support: The most exciting feature of WordPress version 2.6 is support for Google Gears. Gears is an open source browser extension project provided by Google. You can cache the most important files of the WordPress management console to your local hard drive, by clicking the “Turbo” button in the upper right-hand corner of the WordPress administrative interface. It will allow the authors to keep blogging even if the network connectivity is temporarily lost.

Theme Previews: Theme Preview support permits the admin to preview how their site will look with a new user interface before making it live. As soon as you select a theme, it pops up a window that shows the theme live with all your content. It will be great for just test driving the themes prior to publishing. It will also be helpful for the persons developing a theme and need to test it without allowing anybody to see your ongoing mistakes development.

Following are the smaller features and improvements in 2.6:

Word count: It does the counting of number of words in your post.

Image captions: Now you can add sweet image captions at your will.

Bulk management of plugins.

Version 2.6 fixes approximately 194 bugs.

You can toggle between the Flash uploader and the classic one.

Apart from these there are a number of small changes and new features. Only time will tell that how much these new features help the bloggers.

Embed Flash Video In A WordPress Blog

Saturday, February 3rd, 2007
wordpress plugin
There are many reasons why people want to add Flash videos to their WordPress blog sites. Maybe they want to introduce their website and products to their visitors, use as a training aid, show a webinar or simply show the new baby to distant relatives. What ever reason, website videos are used more and more every day.

If you have a real estate agency what could be better than a walk through tour of a property, a walk through of a yacht if you are a yacht broker or tours of sports clubs, hotels, workshops or what ever product you want potential customers to see.

You can hardly visit YouTube or Google Video to find a video about your hotel or sports club, you will have to make your own video or have it made for you. But let’s not talk about hotels and sports clubs, lets talk about you and the eBook or software program that you want to promote which is the reason lots of us have.

To get Flash video up and running we need to download some files and prepare our site. So lets get started now.

Step One: Preparing your site.

There are several plugins available for embedding flash video on your website, some are better than others and some are more user friendly. WP-FLV is one, FLV Embed is another and WordTube is the one that we will be using here. Visit the site, read up on the plugin and download it. Unpack the zip file and upload the folder into the WordPress plugins folder. Note do not change the folder names. You will also need the free, for personal use, Flash Media Player from Jeroen Wijering. Download the player from the website, unzip it and upload only the mediaplayer.swf file into the wordtube folder. Activate the plugin.

Go to your admin area, then Options, Manage, WordTube to set up the options. You can use the default upload folder or change it to another such as wp-content/videos. You can upload your files via Manage-Media Center. Note for streaming videos the Flash player will not show a preview, therefore you need also to upload a image (thumbnail) file. After uploading your video you can insert the tag (MEDIA=ID) into your post where you wish the embedded Flash video to be displayed. ID is the number of the video in the Media Centre. Make sure that you use UPPER case otherwise it will not work.

How to Set Up a Free Wordpress Blog in 5 Minutes

Thursday, February 1st, 2007
wordpress plugin
I’ve had a ton of people ask me lately how to get started marketing online, and more importantly how to get up their first website and start making money in the fastest time possible.

Most of you guys know, I am not a big techie person. And I always tell people that the best way to get started marketing online is by setting up a free WordPress blog. You can set up and update your blog with a few easy clicks!

Even if you don’t know anything about HTML or setting up a web page (I still don’t know HTML!), let me show you a real easy way to get a web page set up in minutes—literally!

Here’s what I did–first, I set up a Wordpress blog. It was really easy setting up a blog.

I just went into my cpanel within my Host Gator web hosting account, and I clicked the Fantastico button, and my WordPress blog was set up automatically.

Boom—instant website! How’s that for easy?

Now the thing about WP blogs is that WordPress sets up the shell, but then you can customize it and make it look however you want.

You do this by installing themes and plug-ins. There are millions of free themes to choose from, and more plug-ins than you can ever hope to use. I’ll list the plug-ins that I am using so that you don’t have to go searching endlessly for the right ones.

I found a free theme for my WordPress blog within Wordpress; I downloaded it, and then uploaded it with my FTP software. I then went to get some plug-ins for my WordPress blog (and you can search for these various plug-ins from within WordPress).

The plug-ins that I decided to use and that I recommend, are the following:

- All in One SEO Pack

- Add to Any: Share/Save/Bookmark Button

- Viper’s Video Quicktags

- WordPress.com Stats

- WP-EMail

- WP-EMail Widget

- AddThis Social Bookmarking Widget

- Google XML Sitemaps

- Ultimate Google Analytics

- Wordpress Video Plugin

- WP-SpamFree

- WP tags to Technorati

There are a lot of these plug-in, and millions of free themes to choose from with WP. You can tweak your blog, and add widgets, and start adding content that is important to you—that is the best things about blogs! Blogs are so unique and personal—you can really make them reflect your personality and your business any way that you want.
